Almost There

Well the campaigns are finally wrapping up and don’t think I could take much more before my head would explode... I covered Bush and Edwards in the past week and I really couldn’t tell you the difference between the 2 speeches I heard.. The thing that angers me so much is when they talk about how evil the other guy is or how he did this and this and this… But when you think about it and ask “why would they do that” there is no logical answer – Its just B.S. meant to brainwash the voter. Milf want a straight shooter – someone who can concede the good points of their opposition but can sell themselves on why they are better. Someone that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone but rather someone who is honest about his or her powers and admits the true path that lies ahead.

Since people have been helping me out I want to give something back... So milf will write what my experience has been with the software so far...

Once again I'm still looking for alternatives... I always want to know what is out there...

But as it sits now I'm running aircheck

The goal: log all station on-air transmission for quality control purposes (programming)

Currently using a shelf system I found in a dumpster as the tuner feed to the line in on the computer. (I'm doing this at my house until Milf can determine what will best suit our needs) Eventually this will become a permanent install with on-air or PGM feed from our studios. The logger system will ideally be shared on our internal network.

Results: Aircheck can be scheduled to record for individual hour segments or set to record when a desired level of audio is detected. Also, it can be setup as strictly a skimmer by closing contact on pins 10 & 11 on the parallel port with a control wired into the mic on/off.

For the past 2 days I have been logging our college station in consecutive hour increments and encoding at 56kbps mp3 using the built in secondary encoding app gogo.

Aircheck records to a wav file on the hd then after the hour is over it begins to encode the wav file to mp3 as it is recording a new wav file for the current hour. The wav file from the previous hour is deleted after encoding... This all happens automatically.

The software can be setup to record these wav file increments up to four hours.
You are limited to selecting no shorter than an hour and no longer than 4 hour increments to record if you use the scheduling feature. However, no matter what length you choose they can be consecutive.

(Although it does not affect my use of the software I imagine some people would want to manually define the exact time of recording and not be forced to the hour increments)

If you have multiple sound cards you can record muliple feeds according to the software supplier... This could be useful if you manage a radio group and would like to record multiple stations (although the processing power would have to be greater than the system I am ussing I imagine).

The software can be operated in complete manual mode as well... Perhaps if you wanted to archive certain non-standard programming for your website this would be useful to you.

Using the encoding rate of 56kbps allows almost all music and airbreaks to be understood clearly. Milf decided to use that rate after some experimentation of quality vs. size... I imagine that everyone is entitled to their own opinion there.

The software has a feature to delete files older than x number of days... once you calculate your bitrate and your hard drive space you can figure where you need to set this at for maximum archiving.

So far so good. If someone knows of a cheaper or open source solution that can achieve this please let me know.

Well the day finally came.. I have gotten contacts to correct my vision. Reality is I've needed them for the past 8 years but have always gotten by with the reliable squint. After driving back from Chicago late at night and ending up in Janesville instead of Galena, Milf realized that the time had come...

Funny thing is I had grown quite fond of my soft world. Everything looks a little bit better when it's slightly out of focus, Platteville women included (badumm ching!) I realize now how sharp and jagged my surroundings are. Get this, turns out Platteville is a dump! ...and most of those blurry men were actually women all along! And to think..all those nights I could have gotten lucky! (or unlucky)

Seriously though, its a whole new world for me! My interpretation of reality has been altered without introducing alcohol to the system. What a concept!
